Resource Partner


Background


I am a PhD engineer and spent the first 15 years of my career helping design and manage projects for companies like Bechtel and General Electric. For the past 30 years I have been working first as a professor, in the College of Engineering at San Jose State teaching management, and then as a consultant helping organizations improve organizational performance and the quality of working life while concurrently contributing to the well-being of society. I have been a member of the OD network for over 40 years and attended my first OD conference in Boston in 1980.

My colleagues and I, like many others, are very concerned about the health and well-being of human society and our planet. We applaud the many initiatives that people are taking to address the symptoms of ill health and improve the well-being of others and our environment.

A primary purpose of my research for the past 30 years has been to understand “what” is the root cause of the challenges we face in helping improve the health and well-being of human society and our planet, and “How” to address it.

There is a well-known management consultant named W Edwards Deming who believed strongly that if you are trying to achieve a purpose, it is not only essential to understand what you wish to achieve and why but also, how, which is the theory and methodology for achieving your purpose.

Riane Eisler the founder of the Center for Partnership Systems has identified what I believe to be the root cause of the majority of the challenges our society faces. She refers to this as the prevalent dominating human culture and she strongly advocates the need to move our culture to a partnership culture. I concur. I am strongly motivated to make available to others the resources (The How) I developed on the theory and methodology for developing a partnership culture which improves the health and well-being of our society and our planet, a future which we will feel proud to bequeath to our children. I need help in doing so.


Our challenge


Human population has grown from 3 billion in 1970 to 8 billion today. The news media is continually informing us about the human pain and suffering that exists on our planet and the deterioration of our environment. This is a clear call for us to more clearly understand “what” the root cause is and “how” to address it. My colleagues and I have developed valuable information on the “how” that will help human society address the root cause. Testing Simply put, we need to facilitate human evolution.


Seeking to address the challenge


It is my view that human society needs a sustainable level of prosperity to provide the foundation for human evolution. Working with the partners at the University and as a consultant, I have participated in the development and testing (Including many on-site projects) of a theory and methodology that can enable partnerships, both large and small, to effectively achieve their purpose while concurrently contributing to the well-being of employees and society.
